With "Everything must go", a deliberately staged sell-out, I side with the St. Michaelis congregation, who fear for the preservation of their church. What disappears when "everything is out"? What comes next? These questions arise when people, attracted by billboards and newspaper ads, crowd the nave of the church in the summer, as they usually do at Christmas, hoping to take a nice bargain home with them. Because one thing is clear: most people enjoy shopping more than going to church. Above all, I would like to initiate a discussion about the preservation of the church of St. Michaelis, which is close to my heart: What is “our church” worth to us?
